Unfortunately, there is very little available to Canadians yet who aren’t located near a U.S. border. There are only a couple of Canadian based online parts stores so far, counting for less than 2 percent of Canada’s aftermarket sales. Online shopping isn’t quite as prevalent in Canada yet, not because of disinterest, but because of shipping. Few U.S. companies will ship to Canada without expensive brokering charges, and shipping rates here are far more expensive than in the U.S.
Taking cues from online giants, online auto parts stores are changing how the aftermarket model works. Online vehicle part sales have been growing since 2009 and currently count for about 4 percent of the total aftermarket component segment. This translates to a $4.6 billion industry across North America. At this rate of growth, the number could be as high as 10 percent by 2020.
